Groundwater level – The Green, Wraysbury – January 2025<\/p>\n

Since I first reported (in 2019) that the Wraysbury Drain was blocked at Hythe End<\/strong><\/span> – RBWM (as the designated lead local flood authority) has failed to take sufficient action to ensure that the channel is fit-for-purpose.\u00a0 Wraysbury Village Green and the cricket pitch are almost submerged<\/span><\/strong> due to the raised groundwater levels.\u00a0 The Wraysbury Fair was held elsewhere last year due to raised groundwater levels.\u00a0 Today there is a suggestion that the Wraysbury Drain should be re-routed at Feathers Lane, Hythe End.\u00a0 In my opinion this is not an option.\u00a0 The land drainage ditches ran generally adjacent and parallel to the roads for reasons of accessibility if nothing else.\u00a0 My recommendation is that the authorities take action NOW to ensure that those who have blocked the channel should clear the channel in order to reinstate the conveyance capacity and reduce the groundwater level.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Consequently I have raised yet another petition<\/strong><\/span><\/a> that you can sign if you live in RBWM.<\/p>\n

RBWM is the designated lead local flood authority with responsibility for ordinary watercourses. RBWM has appropriate permissive and enforcement powers. The Wraysbury Drain has been the subject of previous petitions but is still not fit for purpose.<\/span><\/strong> This ancient land drainage infrastructure channel needs urgent attention.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
