{"id":2614,"date":"2025-09-30T08:54:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T07:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dhwnews.com\/?p=2614"},"modified":"2025-09-30T11:46:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T10:46:07","slug":"jubilee-river-25th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dhwnews.com\/?p=2614","title":{"rendered":"Jubilee River 25th Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The countdown begins.<\/strong>\u00a0 I am really looking forward to celebrating the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">25th Anniversary of the Jubilee River<\/span> <\/strong>(JR) or whatever they decide to call it nowadays.\u00a0 I see this as <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">an opportunity to review the design, the construction, the performance, inspection, maintenance, current condition and cost of the JR.<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 I will of course also mention the LTFRMS, the RTS, the DHEFIM and the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>condition of the local land drainage infrastructure.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>EXTRACT FROM THE FILES:\u00a0 \u00a0ICE News &#8211; Mid July 2002<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Royal opening for &#8216;natural&#8217; Jubilee River<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>JUBILEE RIVER -The award-winning \u00a390M Maidenhead, Windsor &amp; Eton Flood Alleviation Scheme, was officially opened by HRH Prince Andrew this week.<\/p>\n<p>At an opening ceremony attended by over 200 invited guests and members of the public, the Prince was quick to praise the engineers who had made the scheme happen.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Contaminated land was a major issue<\/strong><\/span>, with the route passing through a 19th and 20th century industrial waste disposal ground and a disposal site for sewage sludge from the nearby Slough sewage treatment works.<\/p>\n<p>With a significant danger of heavy metals entering the Thames, the Environment Agency decided to construct a secure, 5.6ha containment cell above the groundwater table.<\/p>\n<p>The cell houses 135,000m 3 [cubic metres] of contaminated material, topped by 2m of soil to allow grass and trees to grow.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/flooding.london\/jrp\/Jubilee%20River%20story%20-%200040.htm\">Full ICE News article here<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>More to follow &#8211;
