{"id":2945,"date":"2025-11-23T12:45:38","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T12:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dhwnews.com\/?p=2945"},"modified":"2025-11-23T12:49:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T12:49:11","slug":"the-development-of-a-new-local-flood-risk-management-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dhwnews.com\/?p=2945","title":{"rendered":"The development of a new Local Flood Risk Management Strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUMMARY &#8211; The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, as Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), has a duty to develop and maintain a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS). This strategy should detail how local flood risk (from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses) will be managed in its area.<br \/>\nThe current LFRMS was last published in 2014. Both National and Local strategies and policies have changed significantly since this time. As such, a new LFRMS is required to bring it in line with these other documents.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The LFRMS and the LLFA\u2019s duties under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 put <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>no duty on the Council to prevent flooding to properties.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The ultimate responsibility to prevent <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>flooding and damage to properties sits with landowners<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Landowner Responsibilities<\/strong><br \/>\nThis objective aims to ensure landowners and occupiers who have a watercourse running through or adjacent to their land are aware of their responsibilities for maintaining them. These responsibilities are set out in section 25 of the Land Drainage Act 1991.
