{"id":3120,"date":"2025-12-17T12:05:53","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T12:05:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dhwnews.com\/?p=3120"},"modified":"2025-12-17T15:04:47","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T15:04:47","slug":"the-plastic-crate-problem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dhwnews.com\/?p=3120","title":{"rendered":"The soakaway crate fire hazard."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is the soakaway\/attenuation crate fire hazard problem.\u00a0 It is counter-intuitive but today, we are burying structural forms of inflammable plastics in the ground to create water storage and attenuation voids.\u00a0 We are expecting these plastics to be safe simply because they are buried and may also be wet.\u00a0 <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">HOW WRONG WE ARE!<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Just search for the Williamsburg Premium Outlets fire in November 2024 and see what can happen.<\/p>\n<p>More than a year after <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>an underground fire collapsed a parking lot<\/strong><\/span> behind the Williamsburg Premium Outlets, the site remains a gaping crater with little sign of progress.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters determined the fire originated in the drainage system \u2014 in a series of plastic crates stacked in blocks to form a holding tank (beneath the gravel and asphalt parking lot) that allows for temporary storm-water storage until it can drain off slowly.\u00a0 Something caused a fire &#8211;
