Black Potts footbridge is about to collapse into the Jubilee River<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Constructed about 25 years ago (by the Environment Agency), this timber structure has been closed since June 2025 and is on its last legs.\u00a0 The beams are bending, the joints rotten and the bridge is steadily sagging towards the water.\u00a0 One joint in particular has deteriorated dramatically over the past year and the comparative images are shown below.\u00a0 I will not be surprised if this bridge fails before the end of 2026.\u00a0 Before you ask – today RBWM is responsible for this footbridge.<\/p>\n

Furthermore the beam at the abutment (Datchet end of the bridge) as shown below is in a seriously bad condition.\u00a0 The image below is dated August 2025<\/p>\n

After the mortice joints have been machined – there is little material left in the beam.\u00a0 The water enters the joints and promotes accelerating rot.\u00a0 Like the Ashford Lane footbridge – it is\u00a0 just a waiting game now!<\/p>\n
