Apparently Thames Water – the troubled company burdened with debt – is again selling ‘unwanted’ land at the toe of a raised reservoir embankment.\u00a0 Description:\u00a0 Land benefitting from allocation for development for 15 residential units in Borough of Spelthorne.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The sale of land at Wraysbury Reservoir raises a number of questions as follows:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Is it acceptable that a company with enormous debt – and talk of re-nationalisation – is selling assets?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Was the land originally subject to compulsory purchase?<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Has the land been offered to the local authorities?<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Could the sale of Thames Water land in August be considered urgent – or indecent and discrete haste – or maybe even planned to attract the least attention during the holiday season?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Today the land lies in the Borough of Spelthorne – but I suspect that before the reservoir was constructed the land was originally in Horton Parish (Berkshire County – now RBWM).<\/p>\n

\nLand benefitting from allocation for development for 15 residential units in Borough of Spelthorne.<\/p>\n

In total the relatively flat site extends to approximately 1.86 acres. Predominantly, it is set as open grassland with trees with vegetation to the northeast perimeter and to the west towards Coppermill Road along with a small grouping in the centre of the site.<\/p>\n

Presently, the site is occupied under licence for grazing.<\/p>\n

The property is situated to the north on the east side of Coppermill Road and runs adjacent to the Wraysbury Reservoir with frontage to the north to Stanwell Road. Horton is located to the north east with Wraysbury to the south. It is within the planning jurisdiction of Spelthorne Borough Council and borders the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.<\/p>\n

Coppermill Road is a residential road comprising a range of detached and semi-detached two-storey houses and bungalows with some flatted development. Stanwell Road provides further residential units along with commercial premises to the north and east.<\/p>\n
