{"id":448,"date":"2024-01-30T18:28:37","date_gmt":"2024-01-30T18:28:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dhwnews.com\/?p=448"},"modified":"2024-02-02T22:58:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T22:58:18","slug":"should-we-cancel-the-river-thames-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dhwnews.com\/?p=448","title":{"rendered":"Should we cancel the River Thames Scheme?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I am asking you the question again:<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Should we cancel the River Thames Scheme?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The need for a downstream extension to the Maidenhead, Windsor &amp; Eton Flood Alleviation Scheme (i.e. the Jubilee River channel completed in 2002) was recognised when we first flooded in January 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Today, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>twenty years, four floods and \u00a370m later<\/strong> <\/span>I have to ask you whether this project (the River Thames Scheme without Channel One that was removed from the project in July 2020) should continue and if not, what alternatives are there?\u00a0 The project is being promoted on the basis of &#8216;environmental enhancements&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The second question is: If the River Thames Scheme project is cancelled &#8211;<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> who takes the blame for \u00a370m and 15 years wasted on the RTS.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong>There seems to have been a lack of honesty, openness and transparency over a long period of time.\u00a0 There are unanswered questions in respect of partnerships, project funding and management.<\/p>\n<p>Finally,\u00a0how do we manage three decades worth of sediment and aggradation in the bottom of the Thames without dredgers, operators and disposal facilities?<\/p>\n<p>Sensible\u00a0 and short responses below please:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I am asking you the question again: Should we cancel the River Thames Scheme?
