The Parish Council term of office is normally four years. There are many reasons resulting in the occasional vacancy that needs to be filled. I was first elected (at a by-election) to a Parish Council nearly 40 years ago and have first-hand experience of this intricate electoral process and its many barriers and stumbling blocks.
