Wraysbury Drain still blocked at Feather’s Lane – 10/4/2024

Posted on April 11, 2024 by ecwlarcombe

This is an image of the Wraysbury Drain at Feather’s Lane.  The channel has been blocked for years and the water level is raised.  The water does not flow and therefore backs up the Drain into Wraysbury Village where the local groundwater level is raised.  Thus the Village Green is still unable to drain after the January flood event and remains flooded and unusable.

The village name was traditionally spelt Wyrardisbury; it is Anglo Saxon in origin and means 'Wïgrǣd's fort'. Its name is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Wirecesberie and as Wiredesbur in 1195. The name is seen again as Wyrardesbury in 1422.
