The three images below record recent works to segment and remove the collapsed centre span of the Ashford Lane footbridge over the Jubilee River. My particular interest is the material selection, physical manufacture and construction processes used to build the structure some 25 years ago. My concern is that the design and construction of the jointing method may have led to accelerated material decay over time – thus shortening the design life. Has anybody learned?
